Forms That Teach Us is an ongoing series of focused 8-week studio units, each centred on a single ceramic form.
Rather than moving quickly from one project to the next, this framework invites a slower, more attentive way of working, staying with one form long enough for it to reveal its lessons through repetition, refinement, and response.
Each form becomes a teacher.
Through making, we learn about proportion, material behaviour, surface, imperfection, and decision-making, not as fixed outcomes, but as an evolving dialogue between maker, clay, and process.
These units sit alongside the Ceramic Journey Series, but they can also be taken independently. The series is open to anyone with foundational experience on the wheel who feels ready to slow down, commit to a form, and work with greater depth and intention.
Unit 1 — Moon Jars
This unit focuses on the Moon Jar as a form for developing scale, balance, and material sensitivity.
Beginning with large bowls, we move into Moon Jar construction, refinement, and surface exploration.
Historical context and glaze response are integrated through hands-on studio practice.
More Units Coming Soon
Forms That Teach Us will continue to unfold as a sequence of form-focused units, each offering the opportunity to slow down, deepen skill, and develop a more responsive relationship with clay.
Future units will be announced as the series evolves.
